Chairman’s Notes July 2021

July 21, 2021 By Andy Watts Leave a Comment

Hi All,

There’s been quite a bit going on behind the scenes so I wanted to provide an update ahead of the AGM which is at the club on Wednesday 21st July, starting at 7pm, and to which all club members are invited.

2021-22 Hockey Season

  • Adult Club Day – 4th September – details to follow via Teamo, but please keep it clear and encourage anyone you know who is thinking of taking up or returning to hockey to come along and join us.
  • Training timetable – attached, starting 5th September. These details will all be on the new website soon (see below), and you’ll receive reminders and invitations via Teamo, including info on any pre-season activities.
  • Subscriptions and match fees – the Board recently agreed that match fees and subs will remain unchanged. We know that last season was pretty truncated in terms of league matches and we are really grateful to the coaches and others involved in extending training well beyond the normal end of season and arranging so many other fixtures – in some ways it feels like the longest season ever! Anyone who has worries about their ability to meet these costs should contact me or Sarah Watts and the club will of course do what it can to help.

Head of Juniors

I’m delighted to confirm that Lou Hagan has agreed to be Head of Juniors. Many of you will know her already as a player and coach, and she’s already done a great deal with Jacko to sort out the training schedule for next season.

Head Coach Jacko

Coaches

A huge thanks again to Jacko, Lou and John in particular for all they are doing, along with the army of other coaches we are so fortunate to have at the club. I’m also pleased to be able to confirm that we will again be partnering with Michael Hoare and the Hockey Lab this season to support the coaching at the club. Callum Mackenzie (GB U23 and Scotland international) will be working with Michael with the Men’s 1s and 2s and assisting with the juniors too, and Michael will also be running Coach the Coaches sessions to help everyone in the coaching team to develop their own skills.

Technology

We have been quietly creating our new website – many thanks to those involved with the new version live and unleashed in early August. Thanks also to John Spicer for driving the move to Teamo.

Covid-19

Although Covid-19 restrictions were lifted this week, we await guidance from England Hockey as to what this means for us – their last guidance isn’t clear about the practical impact for clubhouse use, travel, spectators etc. EH are holding webinars on return to hockey next week which Lesley Perkin (who has done a great job helping us to navigate the shifting rules and guidance so practically) is attending and an update will go out after that. Whatever the guidance, please remain sensitive to those who may be more vulnerable / anxious than you – the virus is still very much around!

Hope to see you at the AGM,

Rob Levine
