Sport in Mind

Sport in Mind have a simple mission “To improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity”. At Sport in Mind we use sport and exercise not only to help people in their recovery from mental health problems, but to raise awareness of the benefits of being active for our mental health too. We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact physical activity can have on people’s mental health having supported the recovery of thousands of people each year. We believe there’s a sport or physical activity out there for everyone and Sport in Mind’s aim is to ensure every single person in the country has the opportunity to improve their mental health through a physical activity session they enjoy.

All of Sport in Mind’s sessions are open to anyone 17+ experiencing mental health problems. The sessions are FREE to attend, they are lots of fun and open to all abilities. Every session is drop-in sessions, so there is no need to book and no formal referral is required. The sessions are all delivered by a qualified instructor and all equipment will be provided at the session. Check out the Buckinghamshire Timetable here for sessions near you.

Hockey For Heroes

Using Hockey as our sport to help, the Hockey for Heroes team work to raise funds for Help for Heroes, with their efforts dating back to 2012 and encompassing a mixture of exceptional physical exertion combined with playing hockey. We are the current GWR holders for the highest game of hockey ever played (Annapurna Mountain Range, Himalayas) and the most players on a pitch at a single time.

H4H last visited ACHC during their last men’s tour, OpStretcher in 2017.

The Hockey for Heroes squad comprises a number of serving and non-serving military personnel and civilians who all rally for this same cause.

Help for Heroes has been involved with Sports Recovery since 2008.

Our squad (now regaining momentum after a hiatus during the pandemic) have several exciting events in the pipeline for 2022 and beyond including further hugely gruelling and exciting Men’s and Ladies tours – but you’ll just have to watch this space….

The work that Hockey for Heroes transcends borders and expands beyond hockey but has been severely hampered by the pandemic.
