Talent Development
“Talent is developed from potential. Everyone has a certain amount of ‘natural giftedness’. This natural make-up we all come with is unique to each of us and is only the starting point. We do not define this as talent, and do not describe players with an abundance of natural gifts as ‘talented’. We would describe them as ‘having potential’. Talent is what you develop from these natural beginnings – through experiences and training.” England Hockey
Our Coaching Philosophy
ACHC is a community club which provides the opportunity for everyone within it to achieve their own goals. We will do this by offering competitive playing opportunities and high-quality coaching and mentoring in a supportive, inclusive and fun environment.
Within this vision, we want our juniors to develop in the way that is best for them – we adhere to England Hockey’s Right Athlete Right Environment principles which means that:
- We want to do what is best for the player.
- What is best for the player will vary from player to player
- What is best for the player will be a function of personal, social and hockey factors – physical development, travel time, friendships, overall life-load, financial etc.
- Deciding what is best for the player will involve input from the player, coaches, captains and parents
In terms of our coaching sessions, we want our juniors to have fun and be happy which we will achieve by making sure that our coaches are positive and enthusiastic and that the sessions are:
- Inclusive and involving
- Stretching/progressive
- Easy to follow
- Focus on the principles of teamwork – honesty, trust
A lot of hard work, thought and continual discussion goes into our team selections and our coaches and captains do their very best, utilising the breadth of their experience, to consider what is right for all situations. We welcome engagement from parents and players alike and if at any time you would like to discuss ongoing development please get in touch with your coach directly.
