On Saturday 10th May, Marlow Hockey Club hosted their first Hockey 5s tournament.
The format involved playing round robin 12 minute 5-a-sidegames on quarter pitches, using specially designed boards around the pitch to bounce the ball off .
Playing such fast paced games in 20+ degree heat was quite the challenge, but the ACHC Ladies team, consisting of Sofia Fleming, Sarah Johnson (SJ), Carys Edwards, Aileen Brown, Miranda Sharp, Lucinda Sanders, Amber Vassiliou, Tabatha Bruce and Sophia Bruce won three out of four games in the round robin, before facing Marlow in the final, having lost to them in the group stage. Some great tactical thinking by GK SJ ensured that the team were playing away from the sun and the team managed to beat Marlow in the final 3-1, emerging as winners of the tournament and receiving a trophy which will take pride of place in the clubhouse.
