Amersham and Chalfont Hockey Club (ACHC) is proud to announce a new charity partner – Sport in Mind!
Sport in Mind is a UK charity that uses sport to help improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems. ACHC will be working closely with the charity to promote wellbeing and share volunteering opportunities and exciting fundraising events.
Inspired by Sport in Mind’s partnership with Reading Hockey Club, ACHC hopes its new partnership will increase members’ knowledge, awareness and communication about mental health and the benefits of physical activity.
The charity’s mission aligns with ACHC’s own vision: “A community club which provides the opportunity for everyone within it to achieve their own goals. We will do this by offering competitive playing opportunities and high-quality coaching and mentoring in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment.”
By using sport to bring people together to talk about mental health, Sport in Mind is helping to change attitudes and combat common misconceptions about mental illness in society today. This is particularly important following Covid-19, which has had a huge impact on mental health and wellbeing, both across the hockey club and nationwide.
ACHC Chairman Rob Levine says “Being part of our local community is really important to us, as is ensuring that hockey is a sport that is accessible to everyone in our community. These reasons are why it matters so much to us to partner with charities which represent groups of people that are new to us and/or like Sport in Mind can also be helpful to our existing members. As a club with a large junior section in particular, the opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues among that group is exciting for us.”
ACHC is looking to build a mutually supportive relationship with Sport in Mind going forward which will complement its ongoing partnership with Hockey for Heroes.
Sport in Mind has recently expanded its services across Buckinghamshire and this partnership will continue the charity’s work to raise awareness and educate people about mental illness and the benefits of being physically active.
