Huge congratulations to ACHC’s GU16 team who beat City of York Hockey Club 4-1 to win the England Hockey Tier 1 Shield.
The team qualified from their regional group pre Christmas by beating Reading and Worcester and drawing with Marlow. This meant they qualified for the EH Tier 1 Supra League which is the last 16 in country playing in a group of four with Guildford, Trojans and Clifton Robinsons after Christmas. Despite some excellent performances in this stage, the team didn’t get the results they needed, so were placed into the Tier 1 Shield.
Their route to the final included a quarter-final 7-3 win against Knowle Park and a semi-final 2-1 against Beeston.
On finals day in Nottingham, the team arrived early to settle in, have a team photo and watch some of the other finals. A&C started fast with a break down the right by Anabel before crossed to Evie to calmly finish. The girls created more chances in the first half and limited York to short corners which were defended well. Devyani scored an excellent back post deflection on 27 mins from Emma’s cross and then Emma scored a short corner strike just before half time so leaving the girls 3-0 up.
The second half was similar with the team creating chances, and successfully defending a few short corners. York scored a corner with 10 minutes to go before Ella McCullough scored from a short corner to wrap the match up meaning the team won the Shield and finished as the 9th best GU16 team in the country this season. The team received amazing support from family and their coaches are super proud.
