Since the end of last season the hockey hasn’t stopped and there have been a number of successes across the Club.
Congratulations to the juniors selected to represent their TA teams at the Talent Academy Festival in Nottingham this July:
Cambridge – Sara McGuire
Guildford – Toby Cartledge
Hampstead and Westminster – Poppy Godfrey
Old Loughtonians – Evie Killigrew
Reading – Manhar Saggu, Owen Folmer and Frank Harrop.
The club had seven representatives playing for Bucks GU17 in the National County Championships held in Nottingham. The team performed brilliantly winning the bronze medal.
In the Wycombe Ladies Summer Leagues A&C won both the tier 2 and 3 leagues. The A&C Lightning, a junior team, have won the Tier 2 league three seasons in a row.
Helene Gosden won both the European and Home Nation Championships playing for England O40s. She shares her experience with us below….
Over the last six weeks I’ve had the absolute honour of playing for the England Women’s O40s masters team in two major tournaments. After four rounds of trials, four training matches – including two hosted by A&C – and a whole lot of fitness training, we were ready. We travelled first to Valencia for the European Championship at the end of June, and then last weekend to Glasgow for the Home Nations.
We won all nine games that we played across the two competitions convincingly, scoring 45 goals and returning with two trophies (and a slightly underwhelming wooden gold medal) . It was a phenomenal team and group of women.
This was my first masters hockey experience and, without a doubt, the highlight of my hockey-playing career. I grew as a player (still possible at 40!), made new friends and had the most brilliant fun. Having my family there to support made it even more special.
I’m grateful to A&C for all the support I’ve received and especially to the rest of the first team girls, who had more faith than me that I would get this far.
